NEPP grants can be used for projects that enhance the quality of life in neighborhoods by improving a community’s appearance; promoting healthier, safer, and cleaner neighborhoods; creating a culture of engagement among residents; or developing future community leaders.
A total of $100,000 is available in this funding round. The maximum grant amount is $5,000. Civic associations, homeowner associations, neighborhood watch groups, community swimming pool organizations, and similar community groups can apply. Grantees must contribute volunteer hours or in-kind donations.
NEPP grants have supported many recent projects in Mason District, including a trail in a wooded area at the Broyhill Crest Recreation Club, a party pavilion at the Edsall Park Swim Club, a watershed-friendly entrance garden at Camelot, and community cleanups and business engagement efforts at Seven Corners.
Anyone interested in applying for a NEPP grant is encouraged to attend one of two information sessions: May 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the Kingstowne Center for Active Adults, 6488 Landsdowne Center, Alexandria, or May 13, 6:30 p.m. at the Pennino Building, 10th Floor Virginia Room, 12011 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.
