When firefighters arrived shortly after 5 p.m., they found a fire in the basement and a deceased dog. Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature and was caused by an electrical event in a receptacle in the basement kitchen.
A homeowner had arrived home to find smoke coming from the basement. The homeowner alerted the three other occupants at home at the time and all got out before the firetrucks arrived. There were no working smoke alarms in the house.
Damages from the fire are estimated at $93,750. The occupants declined an offer of assistance from the Red Cross.
The firefighters and paramedics of the FCFRD remind residents that working smoke alarms save lives.
