Dozens of restaurants and stores opened or closed in the Annandale/Mason District area in 2019, and new ones are scheduled to open in 2020 or beyond. Here’s the rundown:
What opened
New restaurants in Annandale include El Habanero, Iron Age, Lima District, Casa Grande, Gong Cha, Kimen Ramen & Izakaya, O My Hot Pot & Bar, and Hansin Pocha. The Block got a new food vendor, Bold Dumpling, and Bowlero Annandale offers a restaurant and bar, as well as bowling and a game arcade.
In Bailey’s Crossroads, Sardi’s Pollo A La Brasa, Denny’s, Oozie Café & Restaurant, and Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet opened.
In the Falls Church area of Mason District, D.C.Steakholders, an outgrowth of the old Frozen Dairy Bar, opened on Arlington Boulevard, and a Vietnamese restaurant, Bếp Viết, opened on Annandale Road.
New stores in the Annandale/Mason District area include the Bolivian shop, Bol Market, and Thauma a Korean fashion store.
New additions to Barcroft Plaza include Orangetheory Fitness, NavyFederal Credit Union, and Pearle Vision.
Farther afield, the cat lounge, Patriot Pawsabilities, opened in Fairfax, and Crescendo Studios opened in Merrifield.
There were several changes at the Mosaic District, including a new Barnes &Noble book store.
New healthcare facilities include the Renaissance memory care facility in Annandale, while Inova launched the Schar Cancer Institutein the former ExxonMobil headquarters.
What closed
Among restaurants that closed in 2019: Ruby Tuesday in Bailey’s Crossroads, Fortune and Emessa in Seven Corners, and Quizno’s in Annandale.
Stores that closed in 2019 include Shopper’s and Dress Barn in Seven Corners and Safeway in Bailey’s Crossroads. A.C. Moore in Bailey’s Crossroads is scheduled to close in early 2020.
What’s coming
A Chick-fil-Afast-food restaurant is in the works for Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Jong Ro, a Korean barbecue restaurant, has been under construction on Columbia Pike for well over a year.
Two new restaurants, First Watch and Jerusalem are expected to open in Bailey’s Crossroads in 2020. Casual Pint, a burger restaurant, sub shop, and Orangetheory Fitness are coming to the Loren apartment building in Seven Corners.
