A Lidl grocery store is expected to open next year in Pinecrest Plaza in the space formerly occupied by Staples.
Neither the Lidl company nor the Edens real estate company, which owns the retail center at 6548 Little River Turnpike, have responded to requests for confirmation. However, the Edens website shows Lidl on the map of Pinecrest Plaza and states Lidl will open in the 23,487-square-foot space in summer 2020.
Lidl is a discount supermarket chain based in Germany with more than 10,500 stores in Europe and the United States. It has a no-frills, minimal staff concept similar to Aldi. However, unlike Aldi, shoppers don't need quarters to access a shopping cart.
Lidl has an express store connected with its U.S. headquarters in Crystal City. There are Lidl stores in Ashburn, Manassas, Woodbridge, and Dumfies. There’s one under construction on the corner of Commerce Street and Brandon Avenue in Springfield, and another Lidl is planned for Chantilly.
