Gros [FCPS]
When Stuart High School reopens in the fall as Justice High School, it will have a new principal.

Stuart Principal Penny Gros has accepted a new position as executive principal for Fairfax County Public Schools’ Region 2. At the same time, Frost Middle School Principal Eric McCann is leaving to become executive principal for Region 5.

“This is bittersweet for me as my time at Stuart High School has been among the most rewarding years of my career,” Gros wrote in an email to the community May 23.

“I was fortunate five years ago to be appointed principal of Glasgow Middle School, which brought me into this community. I was then privileged to follow our amazing students to high school where I have gotten to watch them as they have grown into young adults,” Gros says.

“I have enjoyed my time at Stuart more than I could have imagined, and that is truly because of the students, staff, and families,” she says. “I have gotten to work alongside an incredible administrative team and the most caring and dedicated faculty, and have been truly supported by our wonderful parents every step of the way.”

As executive principal, Gros will mentor and support school-based leaders in all the schools in Region 2, including the Annandale, Falls Church, Justice, Marshall, and McLean pyramids and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

Region 2 Assistant Superintendent Fabio Zuluaga will follow up with a message to the community about a process and timeline for selecting a new principal for Justice High School.

McCann [FCPS]
McCann sent an email May 23 informing the Frost community about his promotion to executive principal.

Since McCann arrived at Frost four years ago, he says, “the staff has embraced new ways of teaching and learning through the implementation of project-based learning, technology integration, development of executive functioning skills, and content literacy instruction.”

“Through strong collaborative practices, and skilled teacher leadership, Frost has seen great strides in student achievement and served as a model for many other schools in FCPS and beyond,” McCann says. “Our amazing PTA and parent volunteers have continuously supported our teachers and after-school clubs by generously volunteering their time and providing grants for many unique and exciting programs.”

As executive principal for Region 5, McCann will work with schools in the Woodson, Fairfax, Chantilly, and Westfield pyramids. He says the Frost community will be invited to a meeting in the near future to learn about the process for selecting a new principal.
