Turkeycock Run |
Surveying work could start as early as this week, said Yudhie Brownson, a construction manager with the Fairfax County Park Authority. The project will generally be limited to the area to the right of the main entrance on Columbia Pike. The work should be completed before the summer concert season starts in the amphitheater in June 2018.
The project involves the restoration of approximately 1,575 linear feet of Turkeycock Run using natural channel design techniques. The primary goal is to stabilize the channel and prevent future erosion and degradation along the stream.
A large portion of the park’s trail network will be affected, the Park Authority states, and “temporary closures will be implemented to ensure the safety of the public and the project team.”
Fairfax County’s Stormwater Planning Division and Utility Design and Construction Division have contracted with Environmental Quality Resources LLC to carry out the work.
