Man shoots vehicle in road rage incident on beltway

UPDATED 7:35 p.m.: A road rage incident ended safely in Annandale Nov. 3 after a man reportedly shot another man while driving on the beltway, shattering the front passenger window. The victim, 38, had his 4-month-old daughter in the backseat. She was not injured.

The Fairfax County Police Department received a call at about 1:45 p.m. from a man who said he was involved in a road rage incident, The man had been driving on the inner loop of Interstate 495 near National Harbor when he said another motorist started driving aggressively near him.

“Just prior to Braddock Road, the other motorist pulled to the driver side of the victim’s car and suddenly the passenger window shattered. The victim then noticed blood on one of his fingers,” FCPD reports.

The victim exited the beltway on the Braddock Road exit and pulled into the Ravensworth Shell station at Ravensworth Shopping Center to wait for police to respond. The victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries, possibly from broken glass.

“There is no threat to public safety,” the FCPD states. Police later located and interviewed the other driver, a 25-year-old man driving a white Chevy Tax, but did not find a weapon. No charges have been placed. The investigation is ongoing.
