The lease is expected to be signed next week allowing the Woodrow Wilson Library in Bailey’s Crossroads to relocate temporarily to an office building at 6066 Leesburg Pike, while the library undergoes a major renovation.

The library is scheduled to close Aug. 17 and reopen in a limited capacity in the much smaller, temporary location in early October. There will only be room for a small collection of books, a few reference materials, and only the current issue of periodicals. Everything else will be put in storage. If someone wants a book from another library, a  librarian will be able to order it.

The library renovation will start this fall and should take 18 months to two years to complete. It will be expanded by 2,130 square feet to accommodate more meeting space and computers for the public.

The temporary library won’t have any meeting rooms, and there won’t be space for tutoring or other programs. It will only have eight computers for use by the public.

There are two other libraries fairly close: George Mason Regional Library in Annandale and Thomas Jefferson Library in Falls Church.
