The faculty, students, and families of the Congressional Schools of Virginia are honoring teacher John Cavanaugh, who’s celebrating his 40th year as a teacher at the independent private school on Sleepy Hollow Road in Falls Church.
Cavanaugh teaches seventh and eighth-grade history and Latin. Passionate about teaching, he relishes seeing his students learn. “I love to see the light bulb go off for kids. I can see it in their eyes,” he says.
He is a finalist in the Washington Post’s Teacher of the Year Award. Rep. Barbara Comstock read a statement honoring Cavanaugh on the House floor April 12 and thanking him for “touching so many lives as a first-class educator.”
