The public is invited to Computer CORE’s open house Oct. 3, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., in the organization’s new headquarters at the Lee Building, 5881 Leesburg Pike, Room 204, in Bailey’s Crossroads.
Computer CORE provides computer and job skills training to lower-income adults in Northern Virginia, many of them immigrants, dislocated workers, or people in dead-end jobs who want better-paying careers.

At the open house, Computer CORE instructors will provide eight free mini-courses to the public on these topics: math for the workplace, project management fundamentals, intermediate Excel, intermediate Microsoft Office 2010, excellence in child development, computer repair 101, PC security, and effective presentations. The open house will also feature information about Computer CORE’s other programs, such as courses leading to certificates in finance and accounting, customer service, IT office maintenance and troubleshooting, and administration; more than 20 affordable Career Jump Starter Workshops ranging from one to four sessions; and long-term courses.
Computer CORE offers a six-month course, six hours a week with day and evening options. It is capped at 12 students and covers in-depth computer and job search training in Microsoft Office, Internet and email use, keyboarding, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
Students have the opportunity to earn up to 13 college credits for completed coursework through a partnership with Northern Virginia Community College.
There will also be information at the open house about volunteering with Computer CORE. Light refreshments will be served.
