Police explorers learn about the FCPD helicopter unit.
Teens interested in learning more about careers in law enforcement are invited to join the newly formed Explorer Post #505, which meets at Woodson High School in Fairfax.

There will be an information meeting about this new post Oct., 1, 6 p.m., at Woodson.

Explorer Posts are sponsored by the Fairfax County Police Department for youths age 14-20. They provide training in various techniques used in law enforcement, such as accident reconstruction, hostage negotiation, and arrests; offer opportunities for community service; and teach life skills, such as leadership and public speaking. Explorers are given an overview of the Police Department, take part in ride-alongs, and compete in regional and national events.

Post #505 is the third FCPS Explorer Post and the first serving the Annandale/Mason area. The others meet at West Potomac High School in Alexandria and Stone Middle School in Centreville.
