A small crane crashed onto the roof of Canterbury Woods Elementary School in Annandale at about 8:40 a.m., July 4, just before students were scheduled to arrive, according to news reports. Staff members were in the building at the time; no one was injured.

The school, at 4910 Willet Drive, is undergoing renovation. The crane fell on the school’s kitchen, causing minor structural damage. There was also a small diesel fuel spill, which was contained. The accident didn’t disrupt the school day. Classes went on as usual, and students ate lunch at their desks. The cafeteria is expected to reopen tomorrow.
